About the British Gas Great London Swim
How it works
Now in its fourth year the event is the biggest open water swim in the south of England. Around 5,000 participants took the plunge in both 2010 and 2011, in waves of approximately 300 people every half an hour.
The one-mile course starts and finishes on dry land with a run or walk into the water.
Your timing chip wonn’t start until you cross the start mat so don’t worry about taking your time and letting more experienced swimmers go first.
Safety comes first
Relax and enjoy your Great Swim, safe in the knowledge expert kayakers and safety boats are with you every stroke of the way. Our advanced safety system also lets us know exactly who is in the water.
Your Great Swim event pack
This will be sent out around two weeks prior to the 2012 event and contains:
- Your swim hat
- Timing chip
- Baggage label
- Your event information guide
